Sign in Sheets Upon Arrival
For emergency situations or illness, we are requesting that parents sign your child in, list the person’s name that will be picking up your child, and provide two phone numbers where you or a caregiver can be reached that day.
Each parent or designated pick-up person must come to the child’s classroom door for pickup. Adults will be asked to identify himself/herself and ask for the child. Please notify the teacher/director if someone different (other than yourself or the person listed on the sign-in sheet) will be picking up your child. For the safety of each child, adults will be asked to provide an ID with their name and picture. Your child will not be released unless we have your written or verbal permission before pick-up time.
It is preferred by the director that the parent put in writing the name of the person who will be picking up his/her child (even if that person is on the child’s enrollment form). There will be times when the parent cannot do this, however having it in writing is beneficial because: when a person tells the director and/or another teacher the name of the person the following might happen: the director and/or teacher are busy tending to the needs of the children and other parents and might not have the opportunity to write down the person’s name; the director and/or teacher may know the person picking up the child but may not be in the vicinity when the child is being picked up; sometimes, the name of the person picking up is not listed on the enrollment form, so it is essential to have the person’s name in writing and put it on the daily sign-in sheet.
Please be prompt in picking up your child. (Many of our staff has elementary children that they need to pick up at the end of the day.) Please follow the security procedures when coming early to pick up your child.
***Children must be accompanied by an adult before they are allowed to leave the building and walk to the parking lot.
When arriving late or picking up early:
Whenever you bring your child to school after the preschool door has been locked, parents and children should enter through the church main doors on the west side of the building, check in at the church office, and then bring your child to his/her class. For new persons bringing in a child, the staff will be notified to come escort the parent to the classroom. This not only helps keep our building secure and our children safe, but it allows the teachers and children to proceed with their day without numerous interruptions.
The same procedure applies when you arrive before the door is unlocked.
In order to maintain a safe environment for our children, all doors are locked (the west doors leading to the church office are the exception). The Preschool door is unlocked at drop off and pick-up times: from 8:55 a.m. until 9:10 a.m., from 11:25 a.m. until 11:40 a.m. from ll:55 a.m. until 12:10 p.m. and from 2:25 p.m. until 2:40 p.m.
When the preschool door is locked, parents, family or friends should go to the church office and check in. PECC staff has the option of asking persons they do not know in PECC areas for their photo ID. The Director or a PECC teacher will accompany the person to the child’s classroom, if the church administrator, church staff, or PECC staff does not know the parent or person picking up a child. A Photo ID will be requested before the child will be released.
No child will be released unless the parent has given permission on the sign-in sheet for their child to be picked up by a specific person on a specific date. Therefore, the child WILL NOT be released unless a parent has called and verbally stated the person designated to pick up or PECC has reached the parent and has been given verbal permission by the parent to release their child.
NOTE: Although we have a CALL button near the preschool door, the PECC staff/office does not have the capacity to “buzz” the lock and let anyone in. The staff member who answers the phone will direct you accordingly (more than likely, you will be directed to go to the church office).
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION, PATIENCE, AND FOR HELPING US KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE!
Helpful Safety Suggestions:
*DO NOT leave babies or small children unattended in the car when bringing a child or an item into the building.
*DO Not leave a purse or other valuables in an unlocked car.
*For the protection of all children and adults, drive slowly through the parking lot as children might run out from between cars into your path.
*Never allow your child to enter the building without you. Always walk your child to the classroom door and make contact with the child’s teacher.
*Never allow your child to leave the building without you. Make contact with the child’s teacher when arriving to pick up your child.
*Please DO NOT park by the long curb (painted red) that leads to the main doors of the church (west side of the building). This area needs to remain clear for emergency vehicles (i.e. fire, police, and ambulances).
Although it is convenient, PECC encourages parents to not use the parking spots in the handicapped area for drop-off and pick-up. We have several church functions for our older adult members, and some of these people are legally authorized to use the handicapped parking spots. You are more than welcome to use the handicapped parking spot if you have a handicapped license tag or sticker hanging from your rear view mirror. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Church Parking Lot Safety
*Park only in spaces that are marked for parking so the lanes can be kept free for
emergency vehicles (i.e. fire trucks, ambulance, police).
*It is difficult to see young children when they are walking or playing behind vehicles.
Keep your child(ren) close to you and do not use the parking lot for a place where
*Refrain from parking in the Handicap parking spaces so people with legitimate needs
can park close to the building. If you need assistance, please contact Karen Fenton at
913-236-7067 when you arrive in the parking lot and a staff member will either
bring your child to his/her classroom at arrival time or to you at dismissal time.
Retaining Wall, Rock Lawn and Children’s Safety:
Because PECC wants to keep all our children safe, we discourage children from walking on top of the retaining wall, jumping off the wall onto the sidewalk, or playing in the rock lawn area. It is not only a safety issue but a liability issue as well. The potted flowers are there for beauty and also to deter children from walking on the wall. It is the parent’s responsibility to keep their child from walking on or jumping off of the retaining wall or playing/sliding in the rock lawn area.
