Dr. Sara McClure has served as the Director of Music and Worship at Prairie Baptist since 2012, conducting the Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir, and planning and leading worship on Sunday mornings. Sara strives for thematic unity in services, and utilizes a range of resources and styles of music from classical to contemporary to jazz. Having grown up in a musical family that attended a church with a strong music program, Sara has been involved in church music since she was eight years old: singing in choirs, ringing handbells, and playing piano.
Active in the wider Kansas City music community, Sara is the founding conductor of the Medical Arts Symphony Chorus and the Musicologist-in-Residence for the Midwest Chamber Ensemble. She serves as an undergraduate academic advisor at the University of Kansas, and leads biannual Dr. McClure's Musical Tours to Europe. In 2024, Dr. McClure earned a PhD in Musicology from the University of Kansas, and also has Master of Music degrees in Musicology from UMKC and Choral Conducting from East Carolina University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music and History from the College of William & Mary.
