Rev. Dr. Kathy Pickett has served as Senior Pastor of Prairie Baptist Church in Prairie Village, Kansas, for over ten years. A lifelong resident of the Kansas City area, she has lived within the same five-mile radius her entire life, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, parents, and extended family.
Before coming to Prairie, Dr. Pickett served for sixteen years as Pastor of Congregational Life at Holmeswood Baptist Church in south Kansas City. In 2012, shortly after completing her doctoral work, she began discerning God’s call to a new season of ministry. Through prayer, vocational coaching, and the encouragement of trusted mentors, she sensed the Spirit leading her toward a new pastoral opportunity. That call became clear when Prairie Baptist Church invited her to enter the pastoral search process, which ultimately led to her being called as Senior Pastor.
In addition to her pastoral ministry, Dr. Kathy is trained as a CBF Dawnings church coach and has a strong interest in congregational consulting and life coaching. Her ministry is deeply shaped by her commitment to prayer, intentional listening, and nurturing the spiritual health of both individuals and the congregation as a whole.
Her personal spiritual practices include prayer, creative expression through sewing, photography, writing haiku, and singing, as well as the ongoing spiritual adventure of sermon preparation. She treasures time with her family and grandchildren and is committed to caring for her spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being as part of her calling to serve the church.
